Can beef steak be compared to snail meat?

Snails are not an "invention" of our times. They have been a form of food for people for thousands of years, as evidenced by archaeological excavations carried out in today's Algeria and Tunisia. Values The taste of snails was already appreciated in ancient Rome. It was also credited with healing properties and was believed to act as an aphrodisiac. The ancient Romans took grape vines with them as food to the British Isles , where it is still called the "Roman snail" or Roman snail.

In Europe, edible snails are currently popular in France, where they are considered a delicacy, and in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. Snails are also known, among others, in Japanese cuisine and Chinese cuisine, as well as on the African continent in Nigeria and South Africa.

Can beef steak be compared to snail meat? Ukpong Udofia from the University of Uyo compared the nutritional content of snail meat and beef steak. She came to the conclusion that serving snails to children for dinner has only advantages: they are not only a cheaper and more accessible source of iron than beef, but also contain more protein. Moreover, after serving children snail and beef pancakes, it turned out that most of them found the snail cake to be tastier and nicer looking. In addition to iron and protein, snail meat also contains polyunsaturated fatty acids, calcium, magnesium, copper, phosphorus, zinc, arginine, lysine, folic acid, linoleic and linolenic acid, vitamin A, B6, B12 and K.

Snails, which are recommended to school children and young mothers as a cheap source of protein and iron, may help prevent anemia," says Udofia.
